Kola Rural Community Hub is a Community-Based Social Enterprise In Mt. Elgon, Eastern Uganda. We support rural farmers by delivering extension services and asset-based financing for quality agricultural inputs. We help rural smallholder farmers achieve a more profitable harvest. We empower them to foster sustainable livelihoods and ensure food security for a growing global population.

Our Model

Service Delivery Model

We provide four key services required for smallholder farmers to be sucessful:

1.Training.

Our field officers provide year-round, hands-on training that equips farmers with the knowledge, skills, and digital tools needed to thrive. Through regular farm visits, practical demonstrations, and digital learning, farmers gain expertise across the entire farming cycle—from land preparation and planting to crop management, harvesting, storage, and processing. We also promote climate-smart agriculture, digital extension services, and farmer advisory systems, enabling farmers to adopt modern technologies, increase productivity, strengthen resilience, and build more prosperous and food-secure communities.

2. Asset-based Financing.

Many smallholder farmers lack access to affordable financing, preventing them from investing in quality agricultural inputs. Through our asset-based financing model, we provide farmers with essential farm inputs on credit rather than cash, ensuring they have the resources needed to cultivate productive crops. By aligning repayment with harvest cycles, this approach reduces financial barriers, increases access to quality inputs, and helps farmers improve yields, incomes, and long-term resilience.

 3. Agricultural Input.

Access to reliable agricultural inputs is essential for successful farming. We help farmers access high-quality seeds, fertilizers, and crop protection products sourced from trusted suppliers at competitive prices. Combined with training on proper application and use, these inputs help farmers improve crop performance, increase yields, and maximize returns from their farms.

4. Harvesting & Marketing Support.

Harvesting a good crop is only part of the journey. We support farmers with post-harvest handling, storage, and market access services that help reduce losses and maximize the value of their produce. By connecting farmers to reliable markets and promoting best storage practices, we help them secure better prices, increase profits, and strengthen their livelihoods.
